Agios Spyridonas Church

This is one of the most important metabyzantine monuments in the town of Corfu, having been built in 1589 and located within the Old Town (a few minutes from Spianada and Liston squares).

It has an amazing marble temple, the relics of the Saint are still being kept in a silver crypt of the 19th century and it has some astonishing frescoes and golden panels all around.
Agios Spyridonas is the patron saint of the island and it is said to be the saint who saved the Corfiots from the plague epidemic. The church’s bell tower is the tallest on the island.
