Vlacherna

The famous church of Virgin Mary Vlacherna is located just opposite the island of Pontikonissi, whose name was given due to its peculiar shape, resembling a mouse.

This church along with Pontikonissi constitute significant sights of Corfu, situated in the area of Kanoni. In case of visiting Corfu during the celebration of Metamorphosis of Jesus Christ (August 6th), you will be able to see the Byzantine monastery of Pantokratoras, which is the only building on Pontikonissi island.
